On November the 16th 2019, as part of  the GLOBAL CHILDREN’S DESIGNATHON, 1200 children from 40 different cities from all over the globe will come together to design solutions for a better world.

Stimmuli is the host of this event in the city of Thessaloniki!  With the support of the Labattoir project, Stimmuli is organising this very special day whereby children will work on the theme of “Food and Climate Action”, a Sustainable Development Goal topic relevant to all of us. During this day, children will imagine sustainable solutions around this issue, build prototypes and present them to each other via a live connection. At the end of the day they will present their prototypes to an expert panel.

WHAT IS THE WHY?

Children entering education in 2019 will be young adults in 2030. We need to prepare them for the future we cannot predict, for jobs that have not yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented,
to solve problems that have not yet been anticipated. Global education systems see the need to innovate and prepare children for unknown futures, but they are moving too slow.

We don’t want to wait until 2030.

We want to offer a future ready education NOW for ALL the children. An education that will develop children’s curiosity, imagination and resilience so children can learn to respect and appreciate the ideas and perspectives of others and develop agency to contribute to a better world. We want to help create the next generation of changemakers!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Designathon method is a unique e method for teaching children (aged 7-12) transferable skills such as creative and critical thinking, technological literacy etc. The method revolves around designathon workshops where children work in small teams to come up with creative solutions to real-world problems, drawn from the UN’s Sustainable development goals. During designathon children come up with ideas, build prototypes using materials ranging from cardboard and glue to sensors, motors and other electronic components. Finally, children present their solutions to their peers and reflect on the process. This method was created by the Designathon Works foundation and on a mission to empower and unleash children’s creativity to design a better world using new technologies.
